ICARe objectives
ICARe was established with the objective of forming a multidisciplinary center that will become a world leader in the research of substance use disorders. Such a center would enable experts from a wide variety of fields, from basic neuroscience research to public policy, encompassing brain and life sciences, medicine, public health, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, law, public policy and government, and more to bring their expertise to address the problem of addiction in Israel and worldwide. Such a center would engage in research, in teaching, in outreach and in informing public policy.
ICARe recognizes that the first and crucial step in advancing the knowledge and treatment of drug addiction is cutting edge basic and clinical research of the disease. To accomplish this goal ICARe promotes cutting-edge research on addiction through many vehicles, including grant support, student’s scholarships, dedicated equipment and more.
ICARe also sees great importance in the interaction of its researchers with the global scientific community and with the general population in Israel. This is manifested in international scientific meetings and workshops on addiction organized by ICARe, travel awards to encourage ICARe students to present their ICARe-supported research in international meetings and outreach activities in the community.
